About Melissa
Melissa Ross is a dedicated educator and community advocate with deep roots in Round Rock ISD. She is a fifth-generation educator a fierce supporter of public education. After attending Round Rock schools herself, Melissa spent a decade teaching at Westwood High School in Round Rock ISD. She holds a BFA and a BA from the University of Texas at Austin.
As a mother of two children attending Round Rock ISD schools, Melissa understands the importance of accessible, high-quality education. She served on multiple PTA Executive Boards and has volunteered as a special education advocate and a parent liaison for Travis County’s Community Resource Coordination Group, where she helped connect families with vital resources. Her commitment to public education is driven by her personal experience navigating the system as both an educator and a mother.
Melissa is running for Round Rock ISD School Board Place 2 with a mission to build a stronger, more inclusive district. As a Trustee, she will work tirelessly to find innovative solutions for our schools while ensuring that all of our students and teachers have the tools they need to thrive.
Melissa's Priorities
Student-Centered Education
Prioritize policies and initiatives that focus on the needs and well-being of our students. This includes ensuring that decisions about curriculum, programs, and services are made considering the student's best interests and promoting equity and accessibility for all.
Transparent and Accountable Funding
Advocate for clear and transparent budgeting processes that ensure funds are used effectively and equitably. Emphasize the need for accountability in financial management and work to secure adequate funding to support educational programs and resources.
Strong Support for Educators
Ensure that teachers and staff receive the support they need to succeed. This includes advocating for competitive salaries, professional development opportunities, and a supportive work environment that helps retain and attract quality educators.
Engaged and Inclusive Community
Foster strong connections with parents, students, and community members. Encourage active participation in school affairs and decisions, and ensure that diverse voices are heard and considered in the decision-making process.
Effective Policy Setting and Implementation
Work to develop and implement policies that improve overall educational experience and outcomes. This involves creating policies that address the unique needs of the district, promoting best practices in education, and ensuring that policies are applied consistently and fairly.
